    Day 1

An early morning flight will have you
in Portland in time to pick up some fresh
berries and other treats at the Vancouver
Farmer’s Market. Pick up something for
lunch and for snacking along the way as
you travel along the Columbia River to the
Pacific Coast. Your home for two nights
is the city named for John Jacob Astor,
Astoria. A stop at the small Hanthorn
Cannery Museum acquaints you with some
of the industry of the town. This was a hardscrabble
fishing port, home of the first U.S.
Post Office west of the Rockies. Stop at
the Astoria Column before check in. Best
    Western Astoria – 2 nights (D)

    Day 2

Over 200 years ago, the Lewis &
Clark Party were among the first to map
and explore this area. They came down
the Columbia River to the coast on the
Washington side, to a spot named by a seaborn
explorer only 15 years prior. Unable to
find the mouth of the Columbia, he named
it Cape Disappointment. When Lewis and
Clark arrived, they quickly decided to camp
on the other side of the river, further south.
In nearly Long Beach, learn a little about
cranberries, oysters and kites! Lunch has a
cranberry theme at the Cranberry Research
    Foundation. (B,L)

    Day 3

Journey south to Fort Clatsop, a woodsy
inlet with a reproduction of Lewis & Clark’s
infamous winter residence back in 1805.
Continue down to Seaside for lunch at a
local pub; then ride the carousel or spend
some time browsing the little shops.
Ice cream is always a bit hit in Seaside.
Afternoon stops provide more “foodie fun”
with time at the Blue Heron or maybe the
Tillamook Smoke Shop for some jerky. Your
hotel, located on the bluffs in Newport, will
greet you with a salad and chowder buffet
for a light dinner. Elizabeth Street Inn – 2
    nights (B,L,D)

    Day 4

No trip to the coast is complete without
a visit to a lighthouse, and Yaquina Head,
north of Newport, is the perfect stop! Later,
experience the life of the sea with a 2-hour
cruise on the Discovery and a visit to the
Oregon Aquarium. It is a full but balanced
day so that you can enjoy the beautiful town
of Newport and your lovely room at the inn.
The afternoon lighthouse and Nye Beach
shopping stops are optional. Dinner on the
    waterfront tonight. (B,D)

  • Day 5

From Newport, drive inland to Eugene
this morning. Lane County is home to 20
covered bridges. Your tour includes stops
for photos and lunch is served al fresco on
one of them! Hilton Eugene (B,L)

    Day 6

For the past few years, we have been
making an occasional stop in Albany to visit
a museum workshop where carousel horses
are created. Now, the carousel itself is open
for all to enjoy. Remembering the headline
in the tour name, we will of course stop for
a ride and a museum visit. Time permitting,
we’ll visit a local fruit stand for some edible
souvenirs on our way to the airport. (FB,L)

A Coos Bay Christmas

First offered as a holiday excursion in 2013, it has been often requested by our Christmas crowd ever since, so we are pleased to bring A Coos Bay Christmas back for a return engagement.

This is an all-coach trip. Travel north to Ashland/Medford the first day. There’s a lunch break in Redding and tonight you’ll partake in the annual Christmas Feast at the Winchester Inn. The six-course meal comes with carolers and costumed staff.

The next morning (Christmas Eve), before departing for the coast, make an early morning visit to Harry & David’s. As is our Christmas shopping tradition, we have negotiated a little gift card to get you started on your expedition. Travel to the coast, stopping in Bandon at Washed Ashore, a most unique place that makes art out of ocean trash. At Cranberry Sweets, your sponsored-shopping activities continue. Finish the day at The Mill Casino/Hotel in Coos Bay. Dinner tonight is a Crab Fest (other options available), as the Dungeness season will have just started.

Christmas Day brings our legendary White Elephant Gift Exchange, an ecological tour of the area and a visit to Shore Acres State Park. Not only is there an interesting story, there is a wonderful display of Christmas lights. A holiday feast is planned.

The trip home takes you down the Oregon Coast, with shopping stops at Misty Meadows Jams and the House of Myrtlewood. Spend the night in Eureka and head home through the redwoods.
