    Day 1

Fly to Portland this morning, then enjoy
the scenic drive out to the lodge. Stop at
Multnomah Falls, where the water drops
over 600 feet in two sections. Pause
for lunch at the elegant and historic
    Columbia Gorge Hotel. The Columbia
Gorge Interpretive Center will provide you
the opportunity to learn more about our
destination and the natural beauty which
    surrounds us.
Arrive at the lodge in late afternoon. You are
just outside the small town of Stevenson, on
the Washington side of the gorge. Join us
tonight for a welcome dinner, to learn more
about the lodge, our schedule of events and
the activities available to you in your free
    time. Skamania Lodge – 3 nights (L,D)

  • Day 2

About an hour from Skamania is the
Maryhill Museum of Art. It houses an
    eclectic permanent collection and hosts
    traveling exhibitions. The museum, located
literally in the middle of nowhere, opened
in 1940 and expanded in 2012. Nearby is
a concrete replica of Stonehenge, which
honors the dead of WWI, and it’s well worth
a visit. Stop for a private tasting at Maryhill
    Winery. (FB,L)

    Day 3

Today is free to enjoy Skamania and its
many opportunities. There is a leisurely
    guided walk (1-1/4 miles, reasonably
flat) around the property, and the more
adventurous in our group might wish to take
advantage of the special $99 discounted
zipline tour. A guided art walk includes the
lodge’s many “in residence” pieces. There
is a history talk which includes the flora and
    fauna of the region.
No trip to the gorge would be complete
without an opportunity to get out on
the river. This afternoon, partake in a
    sightseeing adventure on the Columbia.
The cruise is narrated and includes the
    specatacular Bonneville Dam.
Of course, you can take one of the longer
hikes or just sit in a big chair on the veranda
and enjoy your surroundings. In such a
beautiful spot, it’s easy to become one with
    nature. (FB,D)

    Day 4

Depart our retreat this morning. At the
    Western Antique Aeroplane & Automobile
Museum join our guided tour or wander on
your own. Enjoy a midday respite in town
and take a moment to browse the colorful
shops. On the way to the airport, stop once
more to discover a waterfall. It’s been a
glorious four days on the Columbia River!

A Coos Bay Christmas

First offered as a holiday excursion in 2013, it has been often requested by our Christmas crowd ever since, so we are pleased to bring A Coos Bay Christmas back for a return engagement.

This is an all-coach trip. Travel north to Ashland/Medford the first day. There’s a lunch break in Redding and tonight you’ll partake in the annual Christmas Feast at the Winchester Inn. The six-course meal comes with carolers and costumed staff.

The next morning (Christmas Eve), before departing for the coast, make an early morning visit to Harry & David’s. As is our Christmas shopping tradition, we have negotiated a little gift card to get you started on your expedition. Travel to the coast, stopping in Bandon at Washed Ashore, a most unique place that makes art out of ocean trash. At Cranberry Sweets, your sponsored-shopping activities continue. Finish the day at The Mill Casino/Hotel in Coos Bay. Dinner tonight is a Crab Fest (other options available), as the Dungeness season will have just started.

Christmas Day brings our legendary White Elephant Gift Exchange, an ecological tour of the area and a visit to Shore Acres State Park. Not only is there an interesting story, there is a wonderful display of Christmas lights. A holiday feast is planned.

The trip home takes you down the Oregon Coast, with shopping stops at Misty Meadows Jams and the House of Myrtlewood. Spend the night in Eureka and head home through the redwoods.

First presented as a mystery daytrip last summer with three departures, this “Magical Luncheon” received rave reviews! Host Gerry Griffin welcomes you to his house of fun and illusion for the afternoon. A very tasty pre-set menu is served with tableside magic and humor.
